About this search

Product management is the role where the no-German question is most genuinely complicated, and that complexity is worth being honest about. A PM sits at the intersection of the business, the customers, and the engineering team, and at many Berlin companies, the customer layer involves German speakers. That creates a real split: some product roles here genuinely need German because the PM needs to run user interviews with German consumers or work closely with German-speaking enterprise customers. Others (typically at B2B SaaS companies with international buyers, or at product areas that are purely internal platform work) are firmly English-first.

The roles that land on this page are the ones where the job description is clear that German is not required. Pegel classifies per role, not per company. A company with a German-speaking consumer app may well have an internal tooling PM or a platform PM whose work never touches German-speaking stakeholders, and that role would appear here. A B2B SaaS company where every customer is an English-speaking enterprise would appear here consistently.

What shows up in the no-German PM listings: product manager roles at companies with international B2B products, platform and internal-tooling PM roles even at companies with some German consumer exposure, and growth and monetisation PM roles at companies whose acquisition funnel runs in English. The seniority span is wide. Associate PM and junior PM roles are rare but present. Senior PM and group PM are the most common title band. Some listings carry a tech PM or technical PM label, particularly at companies where the PM is expected to engage directly with the API design or data model questions.

Questions

What German skill level do most no-German Berlin product roles actually require?
Genuinely none, for the roles on this page. But it is worth noting that the cultural environment of a Berlin company means you will likely have German-speaking colleagues, and basic social German (enough to get through the office kitchen) is a personal quality-of-life question even if the role never requires it. The role itself does not need German; the city has its own ambient language that is separate from the job requirement.
Do Berlin product managers need technical depth to succeed without German?
Technical depth helps regardless of language requirement, but it is not a substitute for customer proximity. A PM who cannot talk to users because they do not speak German needs to find another way to maintain that proximity: international user panels, English-speaking customer segments, or close collaboration with UX researchers who do speak German. Companies that post no-German PM roles have usually solved this structurally, often because their users are international by design.
Which product domains in Berlin are most consistently English-first?
Developer tools and API-first products, B2B SaaS with international customer bases, and internal platform products. Climate tech and AI products are also often English-first because the customer context is less tied to German domestic market dynamics.
