Asset Manager (BESS) (m/f/d)

Job description

Who we are - Our Mission

terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage.
The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady—there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match.
By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world's first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms.

What we are hiring for - Your Role

The Asset Manager (m/f/d) for BESS is responsible for the complete lifecycle management of our operational battery energy storage projects. This role is central to maximizing the long-term value of our assets by overseeing their technical performance and some elements of the commercial and financial performance.
Drawing on best practices from renewable energy asset management, the successful candidate will manage key contracts and serve as the primary point of contact for all project stakeholders. This position requires a unique blend of technical understanding of energy systems and strong commercial acumen to navigate dynamic energy markets. To allow efficient communication with local authorities stakeholders and easy site visits the candidate can communicate freely in the German language and holds a valid German drivers license.

What you will work on - Your Responsibilities

1. Commercial Asset Management:
  • P&L: Take full ownership of cost items. Assist with the budgeting process. Assess feasibility of cost optimisation.
  • Contract Management: Proactively manage key project agreements, including O&M Contracts, Grid Connection Agreements, Land Lease Agreements, and Insurance Policies, ensuring all parties adhere to their obligations. Ensure the project complies with warranty and off-take agreements. Play an active role in contract drafting and negotiation during the originating process.
  • Reporting: Prepare and deliver accurate and timely technical performance reports for internal and external stakeholders, including investors, lenders, and senior management subject to requirements.
2. Technical & Operational Management:
  • Performance Monitoring: Oversee the O&M provider to ensure the highest levels of asset availability, performance, and safety. Proactively investigate around unavailabilities of assets and assign action items.
  • KPI Analysis: Continuously monitor and analyze key BESS-specific performance indicators, such as Round-Trip Efficiency (RTE), State of Health (SoH), degradation, availability, and cycle rate against contractual guarantees.
  • Supplier & Warranty Management: Act as the primary interface with key equipment suppliers (battery, Power Conversion System (PCS), Energy Management System (EMS)). Manage and process warranty claims effectively.
  • Compliance: Ensure the projects comply with all technical, regulatory, and environmental requirements, including grid codes, permits, and health & safety regulations (e.g., DIN VDE standards).
  • HSE Management: Uphold the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) performance for all project sites and contractor activities.
3. Stakeholder & Risk Management:
  • Relationship Management: Serve as the central and first point of contact for all project stakeholders, including grid operators (TSOs/DSOs), regulatory authorities, landowners, and insurers. Support the finance team in its interactions with investors and lenders.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate commercial, technical, regulatory, and operational risks that could impact project performance and profitability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement strategies for performance enhancement, cost reduction, and overall asset value creation.

What we are looking for - Your Qualifications

  • Education:
